Holiday Crafts with the Juza Crew

Gypsy and The Frog Art Gallery

In December, Ben Juza, VP of Operations, took the D.P. Juza crew to the Gypsy and The Frog Art Gallery in Spooner, WI to embrace the holiday season that was already in full swing.

Gypsy and The Frog is a small art gallery in Spooner, Wisconsin owned by Mary Kay Latzka, and Rich Meaux. Both Rich and Mary Kay produce both beautiful and functional art and create anything from dinnerware to custom portraits and painting. Also offered at Gypsy and The Frog are learn to paint classes and pottery painting sessions.

Our Experience

Prior to our visit, Rich and Mary Kay prepared steins ahead of time for everyone to paint and decorate to their liking. Most of the steins created were simple steins with a blank slate for our craftsmen to create their own designs with, and a few others were created to look like castles which incorporated a dragon as the handle.

Some chose to decorate their mugs with their favorite sports teams’ logos, others created images of scenery typical of northern Wisconsin, a few went with the fantasy theme of the castle mugs. With all the different colors, techniques, and options at his disposal, our finisher, Mark was clearly in his comfort zone and got right down to business on his castle stein.

This style of craftsmanship was new territory for our builders, however and the concentration and tension could be felt immediately upon entering the gallery. As with any obstacle we may face here at D.P. Juza, everyone was able to pull through, overcome their challenges, and create a unique, one of a kind product.

It was an excellent adventure for the DP Juza crew, and a great chance for an already close team to spend more time together outside of the shop.
